5 Purposes of The Church

Here's how it works:

The 5 Purposes of the Church are what we use as our overall discipleship process. As you can see in the picture above, one purpose moves to the next. They work like this:

Worship

You Were Planned For God's Pleasure

Someone accepts Christ, they are justified, their sins are forgiven, and their first privilege and ability is to come to the throne of God in Worship. They come with thankfulness and joy over their newfound life in the Salvation that has been granted to them through Jesus. Worship, combined with prayer, is what we are to do every moment of our lives. Keeping this awake in our lives is how believers in Jesus are strengthened and are able to open their hearts and minds to God, and glorify Him through the things that we do in our everyday lives. Worship is not just singing or playing an instrument, however music does help to open us up spiritually and emotionally. Worship is bringing Glory to God with how we act every moment of the day.

Fellowship

You Were Formed For God's Family

Next, believers in Jesus should be growing in the family of God through Fellowship with one another. The primary times to do this are spending time with each other during our Sunday morning worship services, and during small group times during the week. Other ways to grow fellowship amongst believers, is to live life together, to grow deep friendships and to take care of one another.

Discipleship

You Were Created To Become Like Christ

Third, they should be growing in Discipleship as a disciple of Jesus Christ and being daily sanctified (Sanctification: the process of the Holy Spirit teaching us and making us more Christ-like). This happens through daily time alone with God, through the hearing of the Word of God in the messages that are taught during Sunday morning worship, and through our small groups as we live life together, and study the Bible and the discipleship studies that we may be working through. Discipleship happens in us as individuals, through our personal relationship with God, and through the relationships that we build with other believers in Christ.

Ministry

You Were Shaped For Serving God

Fourth, disciples of Jesus should be serving one another and helping to grow the Kingdom of God. That is Ministry. Every person in Christ Jesus has a set of Spiritual gifts that is specific to them, that they should be using to edify, to lift up the church, the Body of Christ. One of Electric City Fellowship's 8 Core Values is that Every Member is a Minister. This means that we need to be ministering to one another as disciples of Jesus, and helping to from the Church, the Kingdom of God.

Evangelism

You Were Made For A Mission

Lastly, as believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to a mission. Matthew 28:19-20 is the Great Commission, and it tells us that we are to go and tell the rest of the world about Jesus! That is our goal of Evangelism. Our mission field as Electric City Fellowship is here in Anderson, SC, and we are going to strive to fulfill that mission. On an individual basis, once you have accepted Christ and started living a life of worship, began to grow in fellowship with other believers in Jesus, sought to grow deeper as a disciple of Jesus, and served the Church and the others around you in ministry, you have the privilege to spread the Gospel, the Word of Jesus to others that may not know Him. this is Evangelism, and it kickstarts the 5 purposes of the church in their life as they come to be a worshipper of Christ Jesus!
